What are Pallet Strapping Machines?
In warehouse processes and packing environments,
products, boxes and pallets are strapped before being distributed
and despatched. Pallet strapping machines serve an important
function in securing the items and making them safe to transport.
Pallets are normally strapped using hand tools or by a specialist
pallet strapping machine. Hand tools are cheap to buy offer
an economical means of strapping a pallet. However machinery
is used in higher-volume applications where hand tools would
be inefficient, difficult or unsafe.
The strapping of pallets
involves tightly securing a length of thin polypropylene
or polyester plastic strapping around the box or pallet.
This strong strapping is applied with tension to ensure the
contents of the pallet don’t move and can’t come loose. Therefore
pallet strapping machines fulfil a vital industrial role
both in efficiency and safety.
Most pallet wrapping machines involve the
operator threading or feeding a length of strapping through
the bottom of the pallet and sealing it. As the pallet remains
static for this operation, even large and heavy items can
be strapped easily. This machinery also makes the task of
strapping a pallet much less physical and dangerous and speeds
up the job immensely.
Pallet Strapping Materials
Strapping comes in a variety of materials
to suit different applications. Polyester strapping is very
light, has a high breaking strength and is suitable for applications
in extremes of temperature. Polyester strapping is a non-staining
solution and provides a solid alternative to steel strapping.
Polypropylene straps are perfect for light
or medium strength applications. They offer a very economical,
yet still relatively strong strapping solution for many applications
where steel or polyester strapping is not required.
As the strongest variety of strapping material,
steel strapping is employed in various in strength-critical
applications for heavy items such as building supplies. Polyester
has replaced steel strapping in many applications, although
it is still the best choice of strapping material for many
applications where high strength is vital. Steel strapping
can be sealed or buckled.
Extended Functions Strapping Functions
Pallet strapping machines can be integrated
with other packaging equipment such as pallet
wrappers to
provide a full strapping and wrapping solution. Such systems
can even be implemented as automatic packaging stations programmed
centrally in a production line.
As an extra consideration to secure pallets,
some vertical strapping machinery utilise a sword function
that penetrates the gaps in a pallet, linking the products
to the pallet.

Step

Operator takes end of strap, passes it over top of
parcel and re-inserts strap into entry guide. |

Machine automatically backfeeds strap and applies level
of tension pre-determined by electric control, heat
sealing operation completes the cycle. Total time 15
